Arizona HVAC Licensing RequirementsAny and all contractor’s licenses for the state of Arizona, including those related to HVAC, are administered by the Arizona Registrar of Contractors.  The professional designations this board regulates in Arizona are as follows:

  • Engineering Contracting (Commercial)
  • General Commercial Contracting
  • Specialty Commercial Contracting
  • General Residential Contracting
  • Specialty Residential Contracting
  • General Dual Engineering Contracting
  • General Dual License Contracting
  • Specialty Dual License Contracting

Examination and Licensing Costs

All candidates for general contractor’s license in the state of Arizona are required to take and pass a state-mandated Business Management Examination. Additionally some license classifications will also be required to take and pass a trade exam. The business management test will affirm that the prospective license holder has adequate knowledge with regards to the various state and federal laws that pertain to their field of endeavor.  The applicant will also be required to successfully answer questions on the management of construction projects and business and financial management.

Registration fees for contractor examinations in the state of Arizona are $56 for one examination and $106 for two, and $30 for the solar only portion.  Applicants are allowed three attempts to pass an exam.  If not successful, the applicant may test a 4th time, but must wait 180 to register again.
